The government help ran out

Make more than $63,840? The government pays nothing toward your health insurance.

If you buy your own coverage, you probably found that out in October. Most people have not re-shopped in years, and the price has gone up every one of them. If you think you should be paying less, that is what I do.

Make one dollar more than this and the government pays nothing.

Not a little less. Zero. These are the income limits for government help with the monthly premium on a plan you buy yourself.

Find the row that matches your household.

Just you$63,840
Two of you$86,560
Three$109,280
Four$132,000

These are the 2027 numbers. Do not take my word for it. Look them up at aspe.hhs.gov/poverty-guidelines.

Covered through a job? This still applies to you.

Employers pay most of the premium for the employee and much less for everybody else on the plan. So if your spouse and kids are on your work plan, there is a real chance they would cost less somewhere else.

What changed

The money coming off your bill stopped last December. Nobody sent you a letter about it.

2021

The government started helping everybody who bought their own plan, no matter what they earned.

2025

That stopped on December 31 and Congress has not brought it back.

Now

One study followed a family of four earning $130,000. Their bill went from $921 a month to $1,998.

Why it hits you hardest

Most plans you are shown do not save you money for being healthy.

When you buy most plans, the law says your price can only be based on four things: your age, where you live, how many people are on the plan, and whether you smoke. That is the whole list. That is a fair rule and it protects people who really need it. But stack no help on top of it, and here is where you land.

You

Two doctor visits all year. One of them was a physical.

Your neighbor

Same age, same street. Four specialists a month.

$1,998/mo

You both pay the same. Plans priced on your health do exist, and a healthy family pays less on one.

Maybe you picked a good plan. The question is when.

Your price went up. Every year, whether you used the plan or not.

The plans around yours changed. New ones showed up, old ones got worse, doctor lists moved.

Your family changed. A kid, a job, a move, a year somebody finally hit the deductible.

A plan that was right three years ago is not automatically right now.

That is where I come in

Twenty minutes. You walk away with one of two things.

(Or I tell you that you are already in the right plan.)

Pay less

Similar coverage to what you have now, smaller bill every month.

I am Daniel. I live here in Douglas County.

I am a licensed insurance agent and I live right here in Douglas County. I also run two small businesses in the cycling and endurance sports space, which is a long way of saying I work for myself and buy my own coverage, same as a lot of you.

If you ride, you will find me out on the Highlands Ranch trails most weekends.
